About Our Guest:

440 Elm, situated centrally between Los Angeles and Orange Counties in downtown Long Beach, stands as a newly renovated historic venue. Constructed in 1913 by the esteemed local architect Elmer Grey, renowned for iconic structures such as the Beverly Hills Hotel, Pasadena Playhouse, Huntington Library, and Caltech, the venue showcases the grandeur of Renaissance Revival architecture.

The opulent ballroom within 440 Elm, one of the largest non-hotel ballrooms in Southern California, boasts impressive features. With 30' coffered ceilings, vibrant multi-story stained glass, original Tiffany-style leaded glass doors, lavish chandeliers, and an adjacent black and white diamond floor in the foyer, the venue exudes an elegant yet neutral ambiance. Its matching outdoor Plaza further enhances the experience, allowing seamless indoor and outdoor weddings for gatherings as large as 450, eliminating the need for a flip. Operated by the esteemed caterer Bite Catering Couture, 440 Elm aligns with Chef Elizabeth Goel's commitment to providing clients with highly personalized and thematic menus, all presented with exquisite detail.

Originally erected as the First Church of Christ Scientist in Long Beach, 440 Elm holds historical significance as a landmark church in the Renaissance Revival style. Conceived by Elmer Grey in 1913, this monumental building was designed to convey a scale and size relative to the surrounding neighborhood at that time. It once accommodated 1200 worshippers and 1000 Sunday school participants at its peak, solidifying its place in the local history and architectural heritage.
